Barney's Madison Ave Negotiation Notes 6/10/2008
Thank you to union committee member Steve Blecher for preparing this update:
NEGOTIATION NOTES June 10, 2008
The committee met at 10:00 today to discuss our strategies for the day. At 12:52 we called the Company in to give them our updated proposals.
UNION PROPOSALS:
RETURNS - We withdrew our proposal of changing time for forfeiture returns
AVERAGE RATE OF PAY FOR NEW HIRES- Withdrew proposal for time and a half
SICK PAY CAP - Agreed to $230 in 2nd year and $235 in 3rd year on Feb 1 of each year
SELLING WAGE INCREASE - $.50 in 1st year
SELLING COMMISSION RAISE - .125% in 1st year as of July 1
SELLING BONUS INCREASE - .125% to Bonus pool
NON SELLING WAGE INCREASE - $.65 in 1st year, $.60 in 2nd year, $.60 in 3rd year
HEALTH CONTRIBUTUION - $12.50 per week on average with a tier system (single, single +1 and family)
MINIMUM HIRING RATES- Category 2 - $9.50, Category 3 $10.50 Accepted, Category 4 $17.00 Accepted and Personal Shopper Asst modified to $12
At 1:07 the Company took a caucus and returned at 1:32. At this time the Company expressed their confusion over their perception of these new proposals being worth more than the union’s previous one.
COMPANY RESPONSES:
NO COMMISSION INCREASES
NO INCREASE TO THE BONUS POOL
NO COUNTER PROPOSAL TO WAGE PROPOSALS
ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A LITTLE BIT OF ROOM FOR A SELLING WAGE INCREASE TO BE REFERRED TO AS AN OFFSET TO THE HEALTH CONTRIBUTUION
SICK PAY CAP - Accepted
NON SELLING MINIMUM - Category 2 and Personal Shopper Asst Accepted
At 1:46 the Company took a caucus and returned at 2:00. The Company restated their position that the employee health contribution should be an average of $22 per week as the total amount deducted.
The committee members then went around the table to air our displeasure with the Company’s “give back” proposal.
The meeting ended at 2:51 with the next meeting scheduled for Wednesday June 18.
These notes were prepared by Steve Blecher and this is not an official NY/NY Joint board document.
